Vincent Houart (EMM 2012) organised a meeting of EMM/CEPAC Alumni at Europcar on 8 February to discuss the challenges posed by mobility and the solutions already existing in the market.

Station of the future

Europcar has marked a turning point in its history with its intention to position itself as a global player in the market for mobility solutions. Examples of this new strategy are Europcar’s acquisition of the French carsharing specialist Ubeeqo and its new partnership with Scooty. Europcar has also set up a station ‘of the future’ in the European Quarter, which it in augurated last March. There are many innovations in this station, since it offers in a unique one-stop-shop not only car rentals but also an innovative range of products for mobility: Ubeeqo car sharing, electric scooters with ‘free-floating’ sharing, segways, electric cars and more.

Fleet management

To guarantee top quality service, Europcar Belgium is now working closely with companies that are each specialists in their own domain. Ubeeqo, a subsidiary of the Europcar Group, is a specialist in mobility services and fleet management. Quirin Dalemans, Belgian Country Manager for Ubeeqo, explains Ubeeqo’s aim as: “Through our solutions and using our technology, we encourage people to use alternative means of individual travel, by making better use of their car when they cannot do without it, but favouring alternative transport means whenever it’s possible for them.” Ubeeqo is currently rolling out a huge deployment of its onstreet vehicles in Brussels city communes. On two wheels

The electric scooter service is offered in partnership with Scooty, a young start-up. The user needs no ignition key because he uses a code on his smartphone to start up the scooter. The Scooty app also helps him to locate and reserve the nearest scooter. This rental service for two wheels operates in a ‘free floating’ system. 250 scooters are set to embark on conquering the streets of Brussels. These strategic partnerships mark a new stage in the evolution of Europcar from a simple car rental business to the supplier of a complete range of mobility services adapted to the time and convenience needs of every road user.
